Mayabeque, Cuba_ Producers of Mayabeque will participate in the Sixth International Meeting on Sustainable Agroecology and Cooperative Movements to be held from November 19 to 25 with the participation of more than twenty countries.

Gender work, the inclusion of women and young people in agricultural work, the use of efficient microorganisms, the use of sustainable alternatives, seed conservation, animal traction and the introduction of techniques to minimize the effects of climate change to produce healthy food are among the topics to be presented in the contest.

The Master in Sciences, Adilén Roque Jaime, coordinator of the agroecological farmer to farmer movement (MACaC) at the National Directorate of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), explained that in September the delegates will participate in methodological workshops to multiply the experiences on these issues and also to deepen the work of the promoters and the link with the research centers.

During the first two days of the contest, Mayabeque will receive a delegation as part of the practical theoretical program that includes the visit to agroecological farms, to know the resources to produce food that is safe for the environment and human health, land management, protection of natural resources such as soil, water and biodiversity.

During the provincial agroecology event, based in the municipality of Güines, Maikel Pérez Padrón, a specialist in the sphere, said that this territory has a high responsibility in the food supply of the capital of the country, therefore it is necessary to integrate the systems and peasant knowledges that are generalized from the use of agroecology, while exhorting to multiply the results.

Agroecological Farms of Güines, San José, Madruga, Batabanó and Bejucal, received the recognition of the National Directorate of ANAP.
