The fighter of the Clandestine Struggle and the War of Liberation, Venancio Arsenio Garcia Dávila, of Mayabeque, passed away in the afternoon of this Tuesday August 1st, at the age of 86 years due to hypostatic bronchopneumonia. He was born on April 1st, 1931 in Catalina de Güines. Of humble origin, he was the oldest of three brothers. He was able to study until the eighth grade. Due to economic problems he quits his studies. He began to work, first in the field and then as a dependent in commerce, to seek the sustenance of his family.

He joined the clandestine struggle early. For his revolutionary activities he was arrested several times. In 1955 he was selected to travel to Mexico with documents and money for the future expeditionaries, directed by Fidel, to whom he incorporated.

On December 2nd, 1956, he arrived in the Granma yacht in Las Coloradas and integrates the nascent Rebel Army. It participates in multiple combats, among them Alegria de Pío, Vegas of Jibacoa, Las Mercedes, in the taking of Puerto Padre and Holguín. He was part of Column No. 14 Juan Manuel Márquez.

When the Revolution triumphed he had the rank of captain of the Rebel Army and in the first days of 1959 he was promoted to the rank of commander.

Between 1959 and 1962 he held high responsibilities in the National Revolutionary Police. In 1963 and 1964 he participated in the fight against bandits. In 1964 he is destined to study in the Superior School of War and in conclusion, in 1965, he is named director of that center. In 1967 he moved to the production tasks in the agricultural sector for several years. He completed missions in Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, the USSR and Mexico.

He was among the founders of the Communist Party of Cuba. For the services rendered to the Homeland he received different decorations, among them the Combatant of the Clandestine Fight and the War of Liberation Medals, the medals for the 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 Anniversary of the FAR, September 28, and the 50th Anniversary of the State Security Bodies, among other important recognitions.

His body will be exhibited at the Municipal Library of Güines, on August 8, where the ceremony of funeral honors will be held at 9 o'clock in the morning.
