Mayabeque, Cuba_ The Municipal Directorate of Agriculture in Jaruco announced that the farmers of the 14 Cooperatives of Agricultural Production and Credit and Service of the municipality, restarted the preparation of the land for the sowing of the cold season.

The cooperatives’ members cleaned the more than 100 hectares of bananas demolished by Hurricane Irma to transplant the strains of the tree before the intense sun and the high temperatures dry the soil and deteriorate the plant.

Besides, farmers resume the planting of sugarcane destined for seed and the 2018 - 2019 harvest, and apply fertilizers and insecticides to crops that were not affected.

The lands are also ready in the municipality for planting plant foods like tomato, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage and the short cycle viands.

As for the fruit trees, the Agriculture Department in the locality insists on promoting the cultivation by means of the grafting technique that reports good results in varieties such as guava, mango and avocado.
