Mayabeque, Cuba_ Raising the number of bovine of high genetic value during 2019 is a primary objective of the workers of the Embryo Transfer Laboratory of the Valle del Perú Genetic Enterprise, of San José de las Lajas, capital of Mayabeque.

The entity achieved a total of 8 births last year with the use of this technique, figure they foresee to increase in the current calendar from the availability of 23 frozen embryos and 30 selected heifers of perfect physical and reproductive status waiting for the optimal moment for his pregnancy.

This laboratory, the only one of its kind in the province, has high technology and enjoys national prestige for obtaining bovine offspring from high-stallion milk and meat producing mothers.

Embryo transfer is a novel biotechnology technique introduced in Cuba in 1975 by Dr. Carlos Iglesia Toledo, through which the country obtained the first bovine calf in October 1976.

To carry out this technique, at the optimum moment of estrus, the recipient cow and the donor are synchronized, from which process several offspring of animals of high genetic value can be obtained, both on the paternal and maternal side.
