Mayabeque, Cuba_ Specialists from the Institute of Animal Science (ICA) in Mayabeque, along with the Cuban Bussiness Sugar Group (AzCuba) and the Swine Research Institute developed a large-scale production technology of a new food for animal use, Granma newspaper published.
Designed for feeding growing and fattening pigs, the product manages to replace much of the corn used in the diet of these animals without affecting the quality of nutrition.
It was obtained by a chemical biological silage process of a mixture of roots and tubers, sub products of the sugar industry amd remainders from the alcohol industry highly polluting as nasty wines.
It can also be preserved for at least six months and no industrial organic and inorganic acids of high costs and difficult handling are used in its manufacture.
The Ministry of Economy and Planning approved the inversions to build 11 plants for the production of this Cuban ensiled feed due to the favorable experiences of its application in pigs, from which eight of them are already operating with a current installed production capacity of 94,000 tons per year.
This work deserved the special prize from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment 2015 as well as the National Innovation Award in the same year conferred CITMA.
