Mayabeque, Cuba_ The International Master (MI) from Camagüey, Carlos Daniel Albornoz, won the first place in the main group of the XVI Special Chess Tournament Andrés Clemente Vázquez In Memoriam, organized by Mayabeque in Villa Bacuranao.
The tournament was carried out with two groups of six players called Elite and Premier who faced each other with two laps.
In the Elite of category X of the Fide by his average Elo of 2478, Albornoz with a rating of 2547, accumulated seven points in the nine rounds and took two points of advantage to his closest rival, the Grand Master (GM) from Villa Clara, Ermes Espinosa (2522) and Dilan Isidro Berdayes (2463), from Havana.
The international Henry Soto from Güines (2470) had a discreet performance and was relegated to the sixth and final place with only four units, resulting from eight draws and one defeat.
The Premier group was tight, but at the end Augusto César Campos, from Santiago de Cuba, and the Mexican Maestro Fide (MF) Javier BenÃtez Lozano shared the place of honor with 6 ½ units, but the tiebreaker system favored the Campos with the trophy.
The National Referee IbrahÃm GarcÃa informed that the third place corresponded to the MF of Villa Clara Jerzy Jesús Pérez Leiva, only half a line from the winners. The representatives of our province, the MMFF Lemay Vega and Alejandro GarcÃa were placed fourth and fifth. The güinero computed (5 ½) and the lajero (3).
Besides the Mexican BenÃtez Lozano in the Premier,  competed the player from Costa Rica, Felipe Fernández, candidate to MF.
Thanks to the logistical support of the authorities of several institutions of the province, the meeting was rescued after several years. In the last two editions it achieved greater prestige because it granted GM and MI standards.
