Mayabeque, Cuba: The Cuban team, with two athletes from Mayabeque included in its roster, occupied the second position in the recently concluded Pan-American Correspondence Chess Tournament.

That Cuban team has just registered its best performance in Pan-American championships with 28.5 units, the same asa Argentina, who took the first place when applying the tiebreaker rule.

According to Master Engineer Pablo O. Salcedo Mederos, president of the Cuban Correspondence Chess Federation, Cuba finished second, followed by the United States, Peru, Panama, Canada, Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Mexico and Nicaragua.

The Cuban Correspondence Chess Federation was founded in April 1972 and attached to the National Chess Commission and in August 1989 it is recognized as an Association of the Republic of Cuba. It is part of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) and is a Full Member of the Cuban Olympic Committee (COC).
