Mayabeque, Cuba: Three consecutive victories led the team of Vaqueros, composed of journalists from the provinces of Mayabeque and Artemisa to first achieve the qualification for the national appointment in Santi Spíritus in the next month of October and second, to qualify as champions of the Western zone.

The story began with a close victory against Matanzas of four scores by two, thanks to a timely home run of Alain Mira, from the Mayabeque newspaper and the pitching of the experienced Reinaldo Fuentes, of Radio Camoa, during the seven innings of the game. Everyone was aware that the first victory would be a major impact, both for the team and for the main rivals, the Pirates. This is how the organizers also thought that in the schedule they placed Vaqueros and Isleños in the last game of the zone.

The contender of the second day was Pinar del Río, a team that came to the competition with only 9 journalists and did the feat, later I tell you why. In front of the green ones, the Mayabequense-Artemiseño pitching imposed. Eight run by zero was the final score with victory for Rauden González, an ArtTV cameraman who sprinkled laurels to paint the opponents white. With this triumph the classification for the national appointment was achieved.

But that was not the end, it was necessary to beat the hosts, who also accumulated two victories and no defeat, and to take away from them the status of Western champions who had achieved the previous year without the presence of the cowboys, already classified as the venue of the national meeting.

After the last out against Pinar del Rio, it was not necessary to call the team members to meet in the dogout and design the strategy for the next day, at that point of the event they agreed that since the beginning of the game it was necessary to make the biggest effort against the local team and announce since very early that there would be no other champion than the Cowboys.

And so it was, in the middle of Saturday morning, the softball journalists of Mayabeque and Artemisa made their aspirations clear. Seven races in the same first innings were too much for the players of the Isle of Youth, who trying to tie the match always received the response from the visitors to close the scoring 16 runs for 8. A good pitching combined of Reinaldo Fuente and Rauden Gonzalez and timely hitting highlights.

I am not a softball specialist, nor a seasoned sports commentator, but those who had the opportunity to follow from the stands the game of the Cowboys, will agree with me that in addition to what has already been expressed, they played with a sense of unity, strength, passion, with total delivery, and so, I, who was there, tell you, no team, absolutely none, could snatch the victory.
