Mayabeque, Cuba_ People from the third age in Mayabeque carry out physical exercises systematically at the bio healthy gyms of the province, to keep good physical conditions.

These centers, located in open spaces, allow the free access of the persons, joined decision between local governments and the Sports directions in each territory of the province and the country.

These projects were born in 2009, when the first units donated by the Spanish province of Murcia arrived in the Island.

Dania García Hernández, national assessor of Communitarians Physical Activities, explained that the National institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER) began the distribution of the equipment throughout the country a year later.

Up to date, there are in Cuba 531 bio healthy gyms, which represent the 32, 7 percent of the aspirations of have this option in every Popular Council.

The advantages of the physical activity into the free air, together with the cost-free status of the service, made these parks an option of recreation against sedentary life.

The module includes 11 apparatus, from which six or five were initially installed with the aim of implementing the initiative in a higher number of localities and to guarantee equally the access of the people.

In the case of the recent acquisitions, there are three more apparatus for persons with physical motors limitations, because this is a proposal to involve all citizens.
