Havana, Cuba: More than 276 guests from 32 countries will participate during the Havana Book Fair scheduled here from April 20 to 30, the organizers reported today at a conference from the International Press Center, Prensa Latina publishes.

The president of the Cuban Book Institute, Juan Rodríguez, shared the news of the main literature event dedicated to Mexico and confirmed the presence of 96 exhibitors, distributors and publishers from other nations such as Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Bolivia and Venezuela.

This is the second time that the Aztec country appears as guest of honor at the Book Fair and culture festival, the first time it happened in 1998, Rodríguez stressed.

The cultural manager of the Mexican Embassy on the island, Santiago Ruiz, pointed out that this great joint effort is the expression of affection between both nations and recalled Cuba’s successful incursion into the Cervantino Festival last year.

The official highlighted that more than 20 authors will show different faces of Mexico from poetry, essay and narrative while the artistic delegation will distinguish music, dance and theater from the contest’s own opening gala.

On the arrival of the Huasteco ship of the Mexican Navy to the island, Ruiz specified that it brought with it 26,000 scientific, children’s literature and humanities texts destined for donation to cultural and educational institutions of the Antillean nation.

He also highlighted the panel that will recall the ties of friendship between Cuba and Mexico, together with the retrospective that will be exhibited at the Castillo de la Real Fuerza.

For her part, Nancy Hernández, director of the Professional Program, offered details of the awards schedule that characterizes the event as well as the theoretical calendar that includes the talks focused on the centenaries of the poets Carilda Oliver Labra and Jesús Orta Ruiz and the 120 years of Nicholas Guillen.

Like every year, the most important event in the Cuban publishing sector will fill its usual headquarters in the San Carlos de La Cabaña Military Historical Park, in addition to other important sub-venues in the Historic Center of Havana, La Finca de los Monos and the Rancho Boyeros Agricultural Fair.

The organizers of the contest called for adherence to the health protocols in force in the country due to the epidemiological situation caused by Covid-19 and reaffirmed that the literary actions will be extended to all the municipalities of the capital.
