Havana, Cuba_ Raul Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, proposed to the Congress to set a maximum age limit of 60 years to enter the Party Central Committee and 70 years to occupy positions in this political organization, the digital site Juventud Rebelde publishes.

The president recommended these modifications to be introduced in the state and government organizations as well as the mass organizations, while emphasizing that this must also be fixed in the Constitution of the Republic, which is scheduled to be reformed in the coming years.

"This measure that introduces limits on the composition of the governing bodies of the Party, reflects the purpose of introducing a natural generational transit towards the next Congress", Raul Castro said.

"The question is to have a method, a way, a project, so that things do not surprise us and evolve as it should be. The entrance will take place with less than that age, so those having 75 may not be in the next Congress”, he said.

He explained that the experience of some countries shows that it is not positive to prolong the ages. He mentioned that in the former Soviet Union in one year, three first secretaries of the Central Committee died.

Raul said that it is no secret that in 2018 he will conclude his second term leading the Councils of State and Ministers and he will assign the responsibilities to whomever result elected.

On the current Constitution, adopted by popular referendum in 1976, renovated in 1992 and 2002, he said it has changed before specific situations that have been changing over time.

"The next reform process that previously must be approved by the National Assembly, foresees a wide popular participation, including a popular referendum," he argued.

He stressed that the scope of these constitutional changes, we will propose to ratify the socialist endorsed in the current Constitution and the highest leading role of the Party in our society.
