Havana_ The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, lamented today the death of the Venezuelan ambassador to the island, Ali Rodriguez Araque, and sent his solidarity to the family of the outstanding revolutionary, Prensa Latina reports.

"Our heartfelt embrace to the Bolivarian family that suffers the loss of an exemplary revolutionary, Ali Rodriguez Araque, Ambassador of Venezuela in Cuba. Guerrilla, political, intellectual and Latin-American, already inseparable from Cuba. Goodbye forever, brother. SomosCuba ', wrote the president in his Twitter account @DiazCanel.

Rodríguez Araque was an active guerrilla leader against the ruling right-wing governments in the South American nation in the decades of the 60s and 70s of the last century.

After the triumph of the Bolivarian Revolution he held important positions in the administrations of former President Hugo Chávez (1954-2013), among them the Minister of Energy and Mines-Energy and Petroleum, Chancellor and Minister of Economy and Finance.

He also served as president of the Union of South American Nations and in 2014 went on to lead the diplomatic representation of Venezuela in Cuba until his death the day before in the capital of the Caribbean nation.
