Havana_ The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel today congratulated the journalists of the Island for celebrating here the day of the sector, instituted in homage to the founding of the Patria newspaper, Prensa Latina reports.

Today we celebrate the Day of the Press in Cuba, in tribute to the founding of the Patria newspaper. My congratulations to our dear Cuban journalists who have defended reasons and truths in an authentic and legitimate professional exercise, the president wrote on his Twitter account @DiazCanelB.

Every March 14 since 1992, professionals from the sector in Cuba celebrate their day to remember the first issue of the newspaper Patria, the highest expression of the prolific journalistic work of the Apostle José Martí, initiated with the publication of El Diablo Cojuelo and La Patria Libre, in 1869.
