Havana_ The President of the Council of States and Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel, announced on Wednesday on his official Twitter account that the Cuban Government will open two new schools in the central and eastern regions of the country for children with severe disabilities, Prensa Latina reports.
These schools are being opened in response to a request by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raul Castro, to extend the experience of the Solidarity with Panama school.
Solidarity with Panama was founded in 1989 and in its classrooms, infants with physical-motor impairments or mental retardation attend from pre-school to ninth grade.
The national reference center is distinguished by the differentiated attention and its consecrated personnel.
On her part, Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodriguez announced on Twitter the start this morning of the presentation in Geneva of Cuba's report before the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, a fact that demonstrates the commitment of the Greater Antilles in the promotion and protection of human rights by its people.
The presentation of this report takes place in virtue of the obligations assumed by the country to become a State Party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, on September 6, 2007 and constitutes an opportunity for our country to present before the Committee its undeniable achievements and experiences in the field, possible thanks to the political will of the State and the national Government, the overwhelming majority support of the people, and the active participation of people with disabilities and their organizations.
