Havana: The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, recalled today the bombings of US planes over the national territory almost 60 years ago and ratified the courage of the people of the Island before imperial aggressions, Prensa Latina reports.

This fact was the preamble to the invasion by Playa Girón - territory located in the central province of Matanzas - where an armed brigade, trained and transported by the United States, arrived in the Ciénaga de Zapata on April 17.

After 60 hours of hard fighting the mercenaries were defeated, who surrendered in Playa Girón at dusk on the 19th and this action represented the first major defeat of imperialism in Latin America.
