Havana: Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today welcomed the 505th anniversary of the founding of the province of Sancti Spíritus, located in the center of the country, and congratulated its residents, Prensa Latina reports.

Preseve the beauty of the village, its heritage and the patriotism and humility of its people, wrote Diaz-Canel in his account on the social network Twitter.

The province celebrates this June 4th the 505th Anniversary of founded; the then villa reached its status as a city by Royal Order in 1867 and was provincial capital in 1976, according to local media.

The Cuban deputy Alexis Lorente told the national newspaper Granma that a solemn session of the Municipal Assembly, as well as cultural activities, will take place to celebrate the date.
