Havana, Cuba: For the State Council, its president, vice president and remaining 19 members; for the Vice President of the Republic and its president, the number one task has to be the future, said Miguel Díaz-Canel at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly attended by Army General Raúl Castro, Radio Reloj publishes.

In his inauguration speech as president of the Republic, with Salvador Valdés Mesa as vice president, he recalled that October 10 is Cuba's first day of freedom and independence.

He said that this day has to be celebrated for its strong resonances until this minute in which, he said, we have renewed the oath to serve the country.

Díaz-Canel highlighted the episodes that place youth at the epicenter of the struggle and recalled that in July 62, Fidel Castro said at the University of Oriente that the Revolution is a struggle for the future.

Defense and economy

President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that the newly elected have put in the first place, defense and economy simultaneously, because they do not forget that a Revolution is worth defending and the economy is the great determinant of the future.

He recalled that in recent days from the presidency, to thought as a country was convened and when reading the more than 1,200 responses they found a lot of optimism and confidence in the future, but also expressions of concern.

Logical and revolutionary concern that we share in front of a world dominated by the imbalance in economic relations, without buffers for less developed nations and where it has become practical for global financial institutions to rescue banks but never peoples, he stressed.

He recalled that José Martí taught that governing is the art of forecasting and the Cuban Revolution owes much to the prodigious genius of Fidel and Raúl.

Resist without giving up development

In the extraordinary session of the National Assembly, the newly elected president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, said that this year, and particularly the last months, have tested our ability to resist, without giving up development.

He said that the State Council will function more frequently and impact between sessions of Parliament, because, he said, many laws require more expedited ways of revision, approval and instrumentation.

Díaz-Canel emphasized that in 2020 we intend to continue consolidating the economy, and strengthen lines of work and prioritized programs such as housing construction, food production, transportation, renewable energy sources, among others.

He urged to reduce expenses and save, and emphasized the importance of the political-ideological preparation of the cadres, the role of young people and the participation of the people.

Fulfill the mandate of the people

The president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz Canel, reaffirmed to the deputies that, as he did more than a year ago in the constituent assembly of the Ninth Legislature of Parliament, we did not come to promise, we came to fulfill the mandate of the revolutionary people.

He evoked Fidel and Raul, with a long, intense and courageous history in defense of the Revolution, and stressed that when he thinks about them, he thinks about the future, because they were a generation of future, raising a new nation from the Sierra.

If something never lost the leadership of the Revolution, it was the moral course of history, Díaz-Canel said and patented: there they are, undefeated, with no more monuments than their own work, to which we have the duty to render the fairest of tributes: make it grow and prosper, without fear of threats or risks.

The poor of the land cannot lose their dignity or give in to the threat, he ratified in Parliament.

What kind of people do we have?

We strongly reaffirm that the Cuban Revolution will keep intact all its convictions, which cost the blood of the best children of our country, confirmed Miguel Díaz-Canel in the extraordinary session of the Parliament that elected him as President of the Republic.

Today we return to make our assessments so many times heard from Army General Raúl Castro, of “what kind of people we have,” said Diaz Canel and said that with that lineage there is no doubt in facing the future, aware that we will conquer it.

Those who create and build have defeated those who hate and do; The more we are attacked and intimidated, the more the will, the national force, the unity grow, the president stressed.

Like the mambises, we will not hesitate to use the machetes if the rifles are missing, and we will always be ashamed as a banner, and as a vest, the moral, said Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Full confidence in the future.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that our people, more than once the capital of world solidarity - which provides those who need it most - soon expects a solidarity and anti-imperialist wave in Havana in the 500s, like a cannon shot against the blows of the imperial beast.

He evoked so many patriots who have marked the long history of our country in their struggles for independence, sovereignty and social justice, from the 19th century to the present day.

In the land of Raúl and Fidel, Díaz-Canel emphasized, the Bronze Titan's warning has not changed by a millimeter that from those who try to seize Cuba they will collect the dust of their land flooded in blood if they do not perish in the fight.

Intense and challenging days await us, but nobody is going to take away the confidence in the future that we owe to our children, in the Homeland that the parents beat us standing up, stressed the president.

Historical commitment

In assuming as president of the National Assembly and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo recalled those who 151 years ago joined their lives to the destiny of the new nation for their freedom, until reaching an independent and sovereign homeland with the revolutionary triumph.

He ratified the willingness to comply and enforce the Constitution and laws, with the patriotic commitment and personal disinterest of those who in more than a century and a half fought without ever giving up.

Lazo recalled the teachings of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, his victories in defense of the work built in front of his people, along with Army General Raúl Castro.

He reiterated that before the resurgence of the blockade and the aggressive escalation of Washington, the preparation for the defense and the fulfillment of the plans for the economic and social development are the fundamental task.

In the direction of the National Assembly and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo is accompanied by the deputies Ana María Mari Machado, as Vice President, and Homero Acosta in the position of Secretary.
