Mayabeque, Cuba_ The economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States government has imposed on Cuba for almost 60 years, affects the provision of public health services to the people.
According to the municipal coordinator of health promotion in San José de las Lajas, Alfredo Duvergel, this hostile policy of the US government makes it difficult to acquire cytostatic drugs for cancer patients, of different medications for the treatment of Rheumatoid Deforming Arthritis, among other drugs, supplies and equipment for diagnostics.
Before this situation, the Cuban government uses other alternatives at a national level, such as the purchase of these materials in third countries, and at the local level it substitutes medicines for natural and traditional products.
