Washington: When the United States (USA) publishes today a new regulation that intensifies the blockade of Cuba, friends in this country ratify their commitment to defend the sovereignty of the Island, Prensa Latina publishes.

Last Friday the Commerce Department announced in a statement that it will further restrict the access of the Caribbean nation to commercial airplanes and other goods, as part of the growing hostility shown by Donald Trump’s administration since June 2017, when it decided to reverse the bilateral approach process.

Thus, the Federal Register officially publishes on Monday a final rule stating that the Department of Commerce's Industry and Security Office modifies the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) to further restrict the exports and re-exports of items to Cuba.

Specifically, the new measures transform the licensing policy to deny aircraft leases to Cuban state airlines, and clarify that aircraft and vessels are not eligible for a license exception if they are rented or chartered by a national of the Caribbean country.

Likewise, the regulation modifies the EAR 'to establish a general de minimis level of 10 percent for Cuba'.

The regulation also reviews the License Exception known as Support to the Cuban people, in order to prohibit certain donations to the island's government and the Communist Party of Cuba.

It also eliminates the authorization to export 'promotional items' that Washington considers generally benefit the Government, and limits the export of goods for the upgrade of telecommunications infrastructure.

To justify these changes, the Trump administration speaks again of alleged violations against the Cuban people and Havana's support for the constitutional government of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.
