Caracas: Title III of the Helms-Burton Law is part of that repulsive mechanism aimed at outraging the sovereignty of the people, said the general coordinator of the Venezuela-Cuba Mutual Friendship and Solidarity Movement, Yhonny García Calles, Prensa Latina reports.
The arrival of Donald Trump to the presidency of the United States (US) marked an upsurge of hostile policy against countries that decided to advance in the processes of liberation and self-determination, within the framework of their independence and their constitutions, García Calles said in his statements.
"Trump’s government undertook a campaign based on beating nations that do not kneel before their designs, and aims to stain the legal scaffolding that governs the coexistence between peoples," he said.
The activation of Title III constitutes a new threat of an extraterritorial nature against businessmen and investors interested in fostering or consolidating relations with the Cuban government in matters of business, he said.
Approved by the US Congress in 1996, the Helms-Burton Act codifies the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington almost 60 years ago against the Caribbean nation. All administrations prior to Trump suspended the application of the third section of the regulations.
Numerous voices inside and outside the US condemned this action that intensifies the blockade, aimed primarily at depriving the country of foreign investment.
This new attack against the sovereignty of the island will be defeated in the face of world solidarity, the coordinator of the Venezuela-Cuba friendship movement said.
Garcia Calles questioned the excuses used by Washington to intensify its hostility against Cuba, about the alleged military support provided by the Caribbean nation to the Government of Nicolás Maduro, the main target of US interference.
“All the arguments used by the United States regarding the historical relationship of brotherhood between both countries fall by their own weight; the great contingent of Cuban collaborators brings light, letters and health to the Venezuelan people”, the activist said.
"The invasion of Cuba into Venezuela is an invasion of love, of solidarity, which aims to bring the great manifestations of humanity to our people”, he said.
