Moscow: The activation of chapter III of the extraterritorial US Law Helms-Burton reinforces the blockade against the Island and the violation of the international law, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla affirmed today.

The announcement by the United States (US) government to allow claims against Cuban and foreign companies in US courts is recent, Rodríguez Parrilla told Prensa Latina.

This is another step in the aggressive application of US laws against third countries, which constitutes a gross violation of the international law and the sovereignty of all states, the Cuban foreign minister said.

In addition, there is a strong international reaction against this new instrument, said the minister at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Serguei Lavrov, at the end of official talks in this capital.

Our government gives all the guarantees of legal security with respect to a law totally inapplicable in our country, as established by a Cuban antidote law, the Foreign Minister said.

Although these acts will have negative economic implications, it will not diminish the will of Cubans to exercise their self-determination, he head of Cuba's diplomacy added.

These measures also seriously affect Cubans living in other parts of the world, particularly in the US, who violate civil liberties of US citizens such as traveling and attract increasing opposition in American society, he concluded.

Before the press conference began, Rodríguez Parrilla and Lavrov signed a cooperation agreement between the Foreign Ministry for the period 2020-2022.
