Havana_ A few more than 24 hours before the start of the general elections in Cuba, the National Electoral Commission (CEN) of this Caribbean country is currently making the final adjustments to the success of the voting process, Prensa Latina reports.
More than eight million Cubans are invited to head to the polls this Sunday, November 26, to elect delegates to Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power.
During the week, members of the CEN in the different territories focused on correcting the deficiencies detected during the general test carried out last Sunday 19.
That day the opening of the schools, their conditions and the presence of the authorities in their posts, the transmission of data, the scrutiny, the communications and the assurance were verified.
According to the president of the CEN, Alina Balseiro, the supervisors, collaborators, support staff, computer groups and mass organizations that from the neighborhoods will collaborate with the mobilization will also joined the actions.
As part of the preparations, the electoral authorities carried out an extensive training program and verified the voter lists.
For the elections on Sunday the number of candidates amounts to 27 221, coming from the nominating assemblies in neighborhoods and communities.
The most represented age group is 41 to 50 years old, although there are people of all ages, the president of the CEN said.
Balseiro added that this time there is an increase in members of the non-state sector of the economy, compared to the previous electoral process.
On the other hand, about five thousand young people are nominated and women constitute more than 35 percent of the total.
The second round of the elections will be on December 3 in those constituencies in which none of the candidates obtain more than 50 percent of the valid votes cast.
