Since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, sport was for Fidel Castro Ruz one of the main courses of the process, as a right and priority for the human being and benefit of the quality of life.

For the Cuban leader, the practice of physical activity was a constant from an early age and made Cuba a world reference, with multiple prizes achieved in both the Olympic Games and World Championships.

The passion for sport, led Fidel to venture from his student stage in disciplines such as baseball, football and basketball, the latter being one of his favorites.

He was the architect of the sports movement with the creation of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), as well as the mass use of sport, linked to education and other spheres of society.
