Havana: Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today highlighted the professionalism of workers at the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed in Spanish), Prensa Latina reports.

During a visit to Cecmed, the Cuban leader said that the institution, created 30 years ago, is one of the best in the health system on the Island.

The center is responsible for the promotion and protection of health in Cuba and has a regulatory system that can guarantee timely access to essential products, with quality, safety, effectiveness and accurate information for its rational use.

In addition, it establishes a system of regulation, supervision and effective and transparent sanitary surveillance, while developing the functions of registration of medicines, diagnostics, medical equipment and devices, clinical trials; post-marketing surveillance; and others.
