We are living a month of great significance for Cubans, in which important historical events took place, such as those carried out in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo with the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks respectively, on July 26, 1953.

One of the problems exposed by Fidel in his claim of self-defense known as History will Absolve me, was that of public health and after the triumph of the Revolution, it has been a priority for the Cuban State.

Every July, thousands of young people in the country graduate as medical professionals, and enter the ranks of the recognized army of white coats, defenders of life and hope.

It is thus, betting on knowledge and science, that Cuba has developed a public health system, example for the world, where free access to medicine is a right of the people.

Today with a long history full of beautiful and heroic pages, inside and outside the nation, Cuban public health continues perfecting the system and working to improve the quality of services, as an indispensable premise for the benefit of the population.

Over the course of 60 years, the blockade of the United States against Cuba has had a negative impact on health, which has forced us to redouble our efforts to guarantee quality of life and well-being for the people, despite the material difficulties.

Only the political will of the revolutionary government has been able to develop a system of public health at the level of countries of the so-called first world, because of the high scientific level of its professionals and the humanist essence that characterizes them.

It is then necessary to make the excellence of the services, a daily premise, attention with quality, good treatment and discipline from the doctor's office and even the hospital in the entire network of health care units existing on the Island.

To preserve and elevate the high levels of health that Cuba shows and make it a paradigm in the whole world, a world that recognizes and appreciates the medical collaboration of the largest Antillean island, which saves so many lives and bears a message of peace and wellness. Just because it has been achieved in terms of health, it would have been worthwhile to make the Revolution, the one that in July 1953 fanned the last flame of the path of freedom and justice.
