Ángel Sánchez Pérez was born in La Salud, Quivicán, on October 2, 1921. Very early and due to the economic needs of his family he abandoned his studies at the Superior Basic School of that municipality.
When he was 15, he moved with his family to Guanajay, where he worked as a kitchen assistant and shoemaker.
When the coup d'etat took place on March 10, 1952, he joined the struggle. Aware of the need to overthrow the regime that implemented the crime as a system of government, Sánchez participates through José Suárez Blanco of the activities of the Orthodox youth in the province of Pinar del Río.
Angel revived the ideas of the Apostle, from him he received his inspiring patriotism and his concept of honor and human dignity. He joined the movement led by Fidel and was part of the caravan of titans in the assault of the Moncada barracks in 1953, in the group that attacked the Palace of Justice.
After the heroic action, he managed to evade the persecution of the repressive bodies of the tyranny. Protected by the families in Santiago, he managed to take refuge in the embassy of Panama and left for exile.
At the end of 1953 he was arrested in that country for his participation in different revolutionary activities, he joined the battle front of Costa Rica and collaborated with the Sandinista front. He traveled to Mexico where he met Ernesto Che Guevara.
He returned to Cuba in 1955. Under the direction of Pepe Suárez he kept active fighting clandestinely. With the victory of January 1, 1959 he was assigned important administrative and political responsibilities.
He had the honor of being among the delegates to the First Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC). For the services rendered to the Homeland he received different decorations.
He died on March 30, 2014, at the age of 92 years as a result of an acute respiratory illness.
