Guillermo Elizalde Sotolongo, being only 23 years old, accompanied Fidel to the assault of the second military fortress of Cuba, on July 26, 1953. Despite his historical merits, he is considered the same guajirito from Nueva Paz, who was one day selected to star in that feat.

He spent his childhood years in a small town in Vegas, in the midst of extreme misery. He told that he was barefoot all year and that the day he had lunch he did not have lunch and so the other way around.

His mother was a housewife and his father an agricultural worker and in dead time the situation worsened.

His sense of justice flourished in the fields and farms of Vegas and Nueva Paz. After the coup d'état, in his municipality, a group of opponents of the dictatorial regime organized, Guillermo Elizalde was among them.

Sometime later, the military training began at the University of Havana, in the vicinity of Catalina de Güines and Santa Elena Farm.

Elizalde did not let the Apostle die, he was included in the caravan of titans that sowed his light in the Moncada with fire. When the incident occurred, he left the car, Fidel tried to regroup the troops, but there was no solution. He returned to the Siboney Farm on the car with Fidel. There he changed his clothes and returned with Genaro to Santiago de Cuba, trying to leave for Havana, but when they arrived at the hotel they were arrested.

Then, he attended Fidel's trial and was released, returning to the capital of all Cubans.

He was among the organizers of the plan to support the Granma Yatch Landing in coordination with the group of San Nicolás and continued to develop activities.

After the triumph of the Revolution, among other tasks, he joined the Revolutionary National Militias. He worked as Coordinator of M-26-7 in his hometown.
