Havana_ On the day of the 166th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban National Hero, José Martí, his ideology has especial valid today in the face of the growing threat from the United States against peace in Latin America.

Born on January 28, 1853, Marti found an early death at the age of 42 in Dos Ríos when his love for his country and his desire for the freedom of Cuba took him to the battlefield; however, his vast work made him a universal Cuban.

For Marti we knew the need for the awakening of the peoples of Latin America and keep alert before the colonialist interests of the United States, which he described as 'giants who have seven leagues in their boots'.

He also encouraged the unity of the peoples convinced of the importance of unitary power to achieve and preserve the independence and sovereignty of the region.

"It is the hour of the recount, and of the united march, and we have to walk in a tight box, like the silver in the roots of the Andes", said the Cuban hero in that sense.

Therefore, in the current circumstances, when Washington tries to impose its dominion in the continent, for the researchers of his life and work it is imperative to return to his writings as a guide that unites criteria in pursuit of the struggle to safeguard peace.

Besides his Latin Americanist and internationalist vocation, his humble human qualities, his defense of the unity of the revolutionary, patriotic and progressive forces,he inspired the Centennial Generation, a group of young people who led by Fidel Castro overthrew the dictator Fulgencio Batista on January 1st,  1959.

These principles of the National Hero of Cuba have also caught till today, the essence of culture, the social conscience of the Island and the revolutionary project that celebrates six decades this year.

The recent process for the preparation of the new constitution, which will be submitted to a popular referendum on February 24 for its ratification, which counted with the participation of all Cubans - the residents of the island and those who live abroad, give faith of it, as a tribute to the legacy of the Apostle, who advocated the union of all in function of the welfare of the Homeland.
