The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was created on January 1, 1965, and belongs to the United Nations system. Its role is to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of nations. Since 1990, UNDP has published the Human Development Report or Human Development Index (HDI).

UNDP promotes change and connects the knowledge, experience and resources needed to help people build a better life. It is present in 177 countries.

The UNDP network links and coordinates global and national efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, which were committed by the world leaders at the 2000 Millennium Summit.
