Santiago de Chile: More than 5,000 people arrested and 1,778 injured reported the National Institute of Human Rights (NHRI) of Chile since the beginning of the social outbreak until Wednesday, Prensa Latina publishes.
That is the result of the observations of that entity in 112 police stations and 61 health centers, so the number of detainees and injured could be higher, as admitted by the NHRI itself.
The report reveals as one of the most serious situations, that from the number of detainees 549 are children and adolescents.
In hospital centers, NHRI observers found 1,778 injured, including 146 children and youth, and of the total, 933 are shot wounds and 519 are shot, while 172 suffered from serious eye injuries and trauma, including in many cases the loss of one eye
The NHRI report insists that the police forces have committed a series of breaches of the Protocols for the Maintenance of Public Order, such as arbitrary detentions, excessive use of force, and the use of tear gas bombs despite the presence of older adults, minors and pregnant women.
They have also found shots with shotguns throwing gases directly into the body of protesters and pellets to the neck and face and even three NHRI observers were victims of those attacks with pellets.
In addition, the NHRI filed until November 6, 219 legal actions, 168 of them complaints of torture and cruel treatment, and 19 for torture and cruel treatment of sexual violence.
The report states that 'in 20 days almost the same number of complaints were filed against police officers for torture than in the nine-year history of the NHRI, in which 174 were filed, and the number of complaints filed against police officers for sexual torture was exceeded , which was 16 '.
According to the report delivered to the media, the NHRI has also recorded testimonies of mock executions, undressing, threats of rape and other forms of sexual violence, serious verbal abuse and beatings.
