Havana, Cuba_ The Army General Raul Castro, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), highlighted today the main actions implemented in the country since 2011 to update the economic model, while reading the main report to the Seventh Congress, the Cuban News Agency publishes.

The President of the Councils of State and Ministers discussed the achievements and shortcomings of the last five years, and said the transformation process is advancing with steady steps, with the gradualness and integrity needed to achieve the success.

Addressing the delegates and invitees to the partisan appointment, Raúl ratified the socialist nature of the Cuban Revolution, and said the changes will continue without compromising the unit, or applying shock therapies or giving up the ideals of social justice.

He referred to the four projects to be discussed at the conclave, as the conceptualization of the economic and social model and the national development plan until 2030, which marked the country's direction.

Raul stressed that those comprehensive documents do not constitute a finished work; after the Congress, they are going to be submitted to a democratic analysis by the membership of the PCC, the Young Communist League, representatives of the mass organizations and large sectors of society, with the purpose of enriching and improving them.

The Cuban president insisted that the means of production will remain in the hands of workers, while acknowledging the importance of non-state forms towards achieving higher levels of efficiency and quality, as a complementary element in the economic environment of the country.

He reviewed issues such as monetary and exchange duality, which he described as the most eloquent example of the complexity of the implementation process of the Guidelines, a distortion that must be settled as soon as possible to advance in the remaining tasks ahead the updating of the economic model.

The Seventh Party Congress will conclude on Tuesday 19, with the presentation of the new Central Committee elected, the Secretariat, the Politburo, and the First and Second Secretaries.
