Havana, Cuba_ The Cuban delegation to the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students arrived in Havana this Monday after participating in the event that brought together 30,000 delegates from 188 countries in Sochi, Russia.  

According to Radio Havana Cuba, the  more than 250 members of the delegation was welcomed at Havana’s José Martí International Airport, a source from the Young Communists League confirmed.

Reports from accredited Cuban media echoed from that southern Russian resort that the Caribbean delegation was one of the most prominent in the youth gathering.

The first secretary of the UJC, Susely Morfa, stressed that Cuba shone in Sochi from the eloquence of its speakers and the multitudinous convocation that achieved its presence in each room.

Morfa, who is part of the delegation, also stressed that they shared enthusiasm and joy with responsibility, maturity and preparation.

Under the motto “For Peace, Solidarity and Social Justice, We Fight against Imperialism, Honoring our Past, We Build Future”, the Festival paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz; the Argentine-Cuban guerrilla Ernesto Guevara de la Serna and the late Sahrawi President Mohamed Abdelaziz.

Youth festivals are jointly organized since 1947 by the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) and the International Union of Students. The largest of the Antilles was the seat of XI (1978).
