Havana_ Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today expressed his condolences to Brazilian ex-president Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva for the death of his seven-year-old grandson Arthur, who died of meningococcal meningitis on Friday, Prensa Latina reports.

Díaz-Canel expressed his regret in a message on social networks n which he reiterated, in addition, the call to fight for the liberation of the leader of the Workers Party of Brazil.

'We accompany @LulaOficial in his pain. Everyone to fight for his release #LulaLibre ', he wrote in his Twitter account @DiazCanelB, and posted a publication of Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez.

Earlier, the Island's foreign minister also expressed his support for Lula and reiterated Cuba’s commitment to the cause of his release.

The head of the Cuban diplomacy considered it a matter of justice and called for international solidarity in favor of the Brazilian leader.

'In these moments of deep pain for the comrade @LulaOficial, we reaffirm our commitment to the struggle for their liberation. Let's all call together. Let's join our efforts for this claim of justice ', he posted on his account @BrunoRguezP.

The death of his grandson on Friday in a hospital in Sao Paulo joined the sad events that hit the Da Silva family; In January, Lula's brother, Genival Inácio da Silva, known as Vavá, died as a result of lung cancer.

Since April, the former head of state remains imprisoned after being sentenced to 12 years and one month in prison on second instance, in a case of alleged acts of corruption, which experts considered an injustice committed for political reasons.

In February he was subjected to a second conviction in the anti-corruption operation Lava Jato, this time to 12 years and 11 months.
