Cuba Participates in Seminar on Access to Vaccine against Covid-19

Havana: Cuban experts from Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) and the Finlay from Havana participate today in the virtual seminar ‘Accelerating access to the vaccine against Covid-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean’, Prensa Latina publishes.

The head of the IPK Research, Diagnosis and Reference Center, María Guadalupe, will intervene for the largest of the Antilles, to transfer the Cuban experience against the pandemic.

The event is organized by the United Kingdom and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), to facilitate access to vaccines, therapies and diagnoses.

In Cuba, biotechnologists are searching for a specific drug against the new coronavirus, based on previous experiences with other formulas.
Island institutions such as the IPK, the Finlay Vaccine Institute and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology work together on various strategies to obtain candidates based on previous platforms such as those used against hepatitis B and the pentavalent, which includes antigens against five diseases different.

Several research centers, companies and the global scientific community are currently working to obtain a safe and effective vaccine that protects against SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19.
