Havana returns to the autochthonous transmission phase of Covid-19

Havana, Cuba: Starting today, the capital of Cuba returns to the phase of limited autochthonous transmission of Covid-19, as a result of the recent increase in cases of the disease in the territory.

This was determined this Friday by the temporary group of the island government that daily analyzes the epidemiological situation of the country, which is headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

At the meeting, the head of state considered necessary the return of Havana to that point, which implies, he said, a great sacrifice for everyone: state institutions, private sector and citizens.

It is necessary to return to the measures of social isolation, that entails working with the vulnerable population, bringing basic necessities to their homes, and, on the other hand, it is necessary to avoid unnecessary traffic on the streets, he added.

The president also referred to the economic effort that means a worsening of the epidemiological scenario in the midst of the global crisis and the pressures caused by the blockade of the United States, even worse in the current circumstances.

In addition, Díaz-Canel reiterated the call for discipline and social responsibility in order to avoid a more complicated scenario in the capital city, the most populated in the country with more than two million inhabitants.

This afternoon, at 6:30 p.m. local time, the Round Table program on national television will provide details on the provisions that go into effect.

The Ministry of Public Health reported this Friday the detection of 54 new cases of Covid-19, of them 43 reside in the country’s capital, and the rest in the provinces Artemisa (4), Matanzas (1) and Villa Clara (6) .
