Mayabeque, Cuba: The health authorities of Jaruco visited the five popular councils of the municipality this Sunday to assess the risks of its units and the most vulnerable population groups in the face of the possible impact of tropical storm Laura.

According to the director of the Comprehensive Teaching Polyclinic Noelio Capote, Dr. Tania Padrón Rodríguez, the human resources that are deployed from the morning of August 24 in the evacuation centers established in the educational institutions of the territory have already been defined.

The permanent presence of a doctor and a nurse, the availability of oxygen, a medicine cabinet and the essential supplies for immediate and timely attention to patients, is a guarantee in each of the areas that will accommodate the evacuees.

In order to avoid possible COVID-19 infections, the direct participation of Epidemiology technicians and specialists was organized in the evacuation centers to ensure the distance between beds and people, the mandatory use of the mask face and the safety of the food in the different production areas.

In the Maternal Home of Jaruco, measures are adopted for the care of pregnant women who will remain in the institution in the middle of the hydro meteorological event and in the Noelio Capote polyclinic, only emergency and medical emergency services will be provided as of this August 24 and until Jaruco goes to the recovery phase.

The good operation of the generator sets and the technical state of the means of transport that could be needed in this climatic contingency were also verified, said Dr. Padrón Rodríguez.

The basic work groups and the health personnel of each health area define on the ground the pregnant women that need to be evacuated when living in vulnerable conditions or in flood-prone areas, mainly identified in Caraballo settlements.
