Living Statues Community Initiative

Mayabeque, Cuba: The Living Statues community initiative, launched by the art instructor Yamilka Collazo Aldana, promoter of the El Patio Cultural Center, aims not only to support the cultural activities of the Quivicán municipality, but also to introduce children to the enriching world of the arts.

According to the local House of Culture, this project has an interdisciplinary nature and receives the support of artists from different manifestations.

Using techniques such as papier-mâché and modeling, among others of pictorial origin, in addition to using recycled materials to make the accessories and costumes for the living statues, the pieces and costumes are designed with the help of the little ones at home.

For the presentation, various themes of culture and history, both national and universal, are taken into account, thus children and young people become familiar with creation, artistic appreciation, and aesthetic education.
