15 years of challenges, altruism, solidarity and heroism.

Congratulations to the members of the International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Situations of Disaster and Serious Epidemics “Henry Reeve”, for the 15th anniversary of its constitution, on September 19, 2005, by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

Henry Reeve, to whom Cuba honors and with his name designates the medical group, was known as El Inglesito, born in Brooklyn, United States (USA), he incorporated from a very young age into the Cuban independence war, where he was distinguished by his military capacity and human qualities.

Formed under the principles of solidarity and internationalism, this brigade emerged as part of the humanitarian aid that Cuban doctors, on behalf of the Cuban people, offered to the US people after the passage of Hurricane Katrina through the south of that country on August 29 of the same year.

Despite not having obtained the approval of the United States government to carry out its solidarity task at that time, this brigade was undaunted and continued to provide its support in any other part of the world where it was needed.

Today Cuba does not give up, faced with this great epidemic and our doctors have gone to countries as close as Jamaica or as far away as Lombardy in Italy, they join the more than 28 thousand Cuban health collaborators that in 59 nations now also battle against COVID-19.

With “the tightest of hugs” and “the pride of being Cuban, which is strengthened by your example,” President Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez greeted the Henry Reeve brigades in a personal way.
