Havana: Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel today highlighted the creation of the island’s National Anthem, which also commemorates Cuban Day of Culture, Prensa Latina reports.
Through the social network Twitter, the president recalled the event, which has become a celebration both online and with activities in institutions in accordance with health standards to avoid Covid-19 infections.
‘In the clamor for independence the vibrant anthem of the nation was born, which moves and moves all Cubans?, the head of state wrote.
Every October 20th, the Caribbean country remembers the creation of the National Anthem in 1868 during the first act of independence in Bayamo city, located in the eastern province of Granma.
The author of that piece of romantic song was Pedro Figueredo, known as Perucho, to incite the fight of those Cubans who wanted to fight for the independence of their country.
The celebration, which recognizes elements of identity and Cubanness, on this occasion, is dedicated to four personalities: the dancer Alicia Alonso, for the centennial of her birth; and the diva of the Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo.
It also pays tribute to the National Plastic Arts Award (1997) Alfredo Sosabravo on his 90th birthday, and to Elpidio Valdes, a cartoon created 50 years ago by cartoonist Juan Padron.
