President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel.

Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, said today that the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against his country is illegitimate and brutal.

In his Twitter account, the president indicated that, as long as that sanctions policy exists, the Island will continue to denounce it.

“There is no more cruel, absurd, illegitimate and brutal monstrosity that violates the rights of a people that decided to be sovereign and independent?, he added on the social network.

This Thursday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez will present the report on the effects caused by the US siege during the last year.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, the conference will be broadcast live on Cuban Television and through the official profiles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

The complex global epidemiological situation determined that the presentation to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) of the resolution entitled ‘Need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba’ was postponed.

This will be brought to the UNGA during the resumption of the 75th session in May 2021.

Cuba has obtained overwhelming support from the international community in rejection of the US blockade, since on 28 consecutive occasions the Assembly has pronounced, with its vote, in favor of its elimination.

According to official sources of the Caribbean nation, this policy of sanctions, the longest in history, annually costs the Cuban economy around four billion dollars, and at current prices accumulates damages of more than 138.8 billion dollars in 60 years.
