Mayabeque, Cuba: The economic crisis that the Covid-19 pandemic brought with it also affected the Conrado Benítez Electric and Telephone Conductors Company (ELEKA), from San José de las Lajas, a factory that also suffered damages in its production at the beginning of this year due to a lack of raw materials.

According to the deputy director of ELEKA, Manuel Torres Robles, it is a year in which they will not meet the expected levels, but with what was planned after Covid-19.

The plan was for 16 million pesos and when the raw material did not arrive, due to the pandemic, we planned a production of 10 million and we are already at 84 percent, two million are missing to meet that would be fulfill one in November and one in December.

An economic strategy of the cable factory in this period was to seek new customers. “We did a study and we included the Mariel free zone and tourism and we are already manufacturing a large number of cables and the most frequent clients are the Telecommunications Company (ETECSA), AZCUBA and public health”, Torres Robles said.
