Mayabeque, Cuba: “The future of our Country must necessarily be a future of men of science, a future of men of thought”, expressed by our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in the historic speech offered in the Auditorium of the Academy of Cuban Sciences.

These words became facts and persons, example of this is the Commercial Director of the National Center for Bio-preparations (BIOCEN), Nilda Miérez, who together with her work team managed to produce in just seven days the means of transport for virus BiotransVir-BTV, a task of immense significance in the battle against Covid-19 in Cuba.

?I have this mission; they just made me a carrier so that we can raise it up in arms. This has to be for yesterday, therefore, we all have to make a very close team to be able to reach the end?, Nilda Miérez explained to the research group.

From that moment we forget about the hours of the day, we no longer had time to leave or stay, some were leaving and others sat in the corridors waiting for results. Thus began those accelerated nights in which some waited for some kind of mixture and others came and ate and so we alternated in that way ?, the Commercial Director of Biocen says.

The Virus Transport Medium developed is intended for the collection and transfer of clinical samples suspected of containing the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the etiological agent of COVID-19.

This contribution of scientists from Mayabeque enables the adequate preservation of the samples from the moment they are collected in the healthcare and isolation centers, until their processing by rt-PCR in the different molecular biology laboratories of the country.

The development of this product is estimated to save the country a third of the cost of these inputs. The goal is now to produce 10,000 units a day.

BioCen, together with BioCubaFarma, foresees and undertakes investments to implement production in plastic tubes, and ensure the expansion program of rt-PCR tests for COVID nationwide.

Once again, it is shown that our scientists are in the Vanguard, ready to perform any task that is entrusted to them to protect our country.
