United Nations: The secretary general of the United Nations Organization (UN), António Guterres, will have a virtual meeting with the head of the United States diplomacy, Antony Blinken, who will seek to improve relations with the multilateral organization, Prensa Latina publishes.
The deputy spokesman for the secretary general, Farhan Haq, indicated that this meeting is part of a virtual visit by the American secretary of state to the United Nations.
The opening comments of this meeting will be transmitted over the Internet, both on UN platforms and on the State Department website.
Last February, Guterres had a telephone conversation with Blinken, in which both parties spoke for greater ties.
After the four year of Trump?s administration marked by tensions between the United Nations and Washington’s abandonment of treaties and international organizations, Joe Biden’s government seeks to approach these diplomatic mechanisms in a new way.
According to a statement from the UN holder spokesman’s workshop, Guterres advocated in this dialogue for a solid association with the host country and also for the construction of multilateral responses to challenging global challenges, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, climatic emergency and the multiple peace and security crisis.
Likewise, he agreed with special satisfaction with the reincorporation of the United States in the Parìs Agreement, his renewed commitment to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Human Rights Council.
Trump launched attacks against the UN and its agencies since his beginning in power, January 2017, and abruptly cut the funding to several of them.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, in July 2020, he left the WHO after early 2019 together with Israel he had left the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Unesco) and in 2018 they abandoned the Human Right Council.
Furthermore, he decided to withdraw from the northern nation of the Paris Agreement on climate change, the global pact on migration and the nuclear agreement with Iran, signed with France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia and China and supported by the UN.
Meanwhile, the United States government has failed to comply with its obligations as the host country for the multilateral organization, as well as denying visas to dignitaries and diplomats and restricting the movement to representatives of accredited countries.
