Mayabeque, Cuba: The Municipal Health Directorate in San Nicolás guarantees the care of patients with chronic non-communicable diseases, based on the daily investigation, due to their condition as a population vulnerable to Covid-19.
The director of the sector in that municipality, Dr. Araibis Dávila Suarez, explained that the behavior of the disease shows that patients with Arterial Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and heart disease have a greater chance of contracting the new Coronavirus since these diseases cause immunodeficiency and stress in the elderly patients.
Dávila Suarez warned that, if they acquire the disease, these patients can suffer heart failure, which increases the probability of lung diseases, respiratory distress, which does not mean that people without these comorbidities do not develop complex pictures and can have a fatal outcome .
“That is why, based on the knowledge of these risk factors in the territory, they prioritize the control of these patients to detect early those who present respiratory symptoms,” the doctor explained.
