Leaders of nine opposition parties in Brazil unify criteria for the removal of President Jair Bolsonaro.

Brasilia: Leaders of nine opposition parties in Brazil called a virtual meeting for today in order to unify criteria in the impeachment requests of President Jair Bolsonaro who are dozing in the Chamber of Deputies.

The portal Brasil 247 assured that the meeting will be to evaluate ‘the possibility of unifying the requests for impeachment (political trial) in the Chamber of Deputies’ and discuss ways to mobilize a campaign to carry out the exoneration of the ex-military man, described as irresponsible in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The leaders of the Workers’ Party, the Brazilian Communist Party, the Popular Unity, Socialism and Freedom, the Sustainability Network, the Green Party, the Labor Democrat, the Brazilian Citizenship and the Brazilian Socialist, summoned the meeting.

Among those who submitted requests for dismissal are social movements, entities, health personalities and even right-wing organizations, such as the parties of the Brazilian Social Democracy and the Free Brazil Movement.

Recently, the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, ruled out for now opening an impeachment process against Bolsonaro, who could be investigated for possible negligence in the face of Covid-19.

“This is not the time to discuss impeachment in Brazil,” Pacheco said during an interview with the Valor Economico newspaper.

According to the senator, revanchisms cannot be used to initiate an exoneration and it is necessary to evaluate the judicial aspects, analyze the dissatisfaction that exists before a minister (of the Court) or with the President of the Republic.

Despite his rejection of an impeachment, Pacheco announced the creation of a Parliamentary Investigation Commission (CPI) on the management of public policies in the face of the pandemic.

He decided to unite two requests presented by the senators in a single meeting that will investigate the management of the federal government, such as the destination of the transfers of federal funds to the states and municipalities.

Pacheco will comply in this way with the request made by Judge Luis Roberto Barroso, of the Supreme Federal Court.

Barroso reacted to a request presented to the Supreme Court by Congressmen Jorge Kajuru and Alessandro Vieira.
