Havana, Cuba: The incidence of COVID-19 grew in the week just ended in nine provinces, with Havana, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba as the most complicated territories, as analyzed at the meeting of the Temporary Government Working Group for the prevention and control of the pandemic.

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the member of the Political Bureau of the PCC and Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, led the meeting, in which they exchanged with authorities from various territories via videoconference.

From Havana, a jurisdiction with a decline in control, Reinaldo García Zapata, its governor, reported on the enlistment of capacities already in place in the health centers, and on the analyzes to enable more beds in those same facilities. Work is being done to continue raising the perception of danger, including increasing information to the population in places of high concentration of people, said García Zapata, who considered the reinforcement of intensive therapies with specialists from other provinces to be positive.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz insisted on intensifying attention to medical personnel working in the red zones. They are Cubans who are fighting a “hard fight,” and we must encourage them, stimulate them, because there can be no room for fatigue, he reflected.

From Matanzas, a province with a decline in the control of COVID-19, its governor, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, explained what is being done to continue reducing the mobility of people and, on the other hand, raise the quality of the investigations and increase the isolation capabilities.

In the videoconference, chaired by Díaz-Canel, other governors and governors outlined the situation in their provinces, including those of Sancti Spíritus and Granma, who show progress in controlling the epidemic, according to the report presented by the Minister of Public Health , José Angel Portal Miranda.
