Cuba reports today the highest number of infections with Covid-19.

Havana, Cuba: Cuban health authorities confirmed this Wednesday two thousand 55 new people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours due to complications from the illness, Radio Habana Cuba reports.

In this way, the Caribbean nation accumulates 172,909 patients diagnosed with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, and 1,193 fatalities.

At a press conference, Dr. Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (Minsap) reported that this is the highest number of infections reported in one day, a fact that reflects the complexity of the epidemiological situation that we are facing.

According to him, he said, 34,694 patients have been admitted for clinical epidemiological surveillance, 7,421 suspects, 18,144 under surveillance and 9,129 confirmed active (467 more than yesterday).

Of the confirmed cases, 1,924 (93.6%) are contacts of confirmed cases, for a total of 164,089 (94.9%). Meanwhile, 2,008 cases are autochthonous, the highest figure reached so far in this section.

Regarding the source of infection, 47 (2.3%) are foreigners (imported cases), with which there are already 8 236 (4.8%).

84 (4.1%) without a specified source of infection, thus reaching 584 (0.3%) cases to date.

While 692 (33.7%) were asymptomatic and thus now add up to 81,934 patients (47.4%).

Regarding sex, 1,059 are women and 996 are men. By age groups: under 20 years, 435. Of them, 386 in pediatric ages, six under six months and a newborn. There are 23,479 patients diagnosed with 18 years of age or less.

93.8% have already recovered, but 1,447 remain active, of which 102 are under one year old. In intensive therapy, 4 severe patients and 1 critical patient were reported.

From 20 to 39,665 cases; from 40 to 59, 646; and over 60 years, 309.

The confirmed cases are from Pinar del Río: 111, Artemisa: 65, Havana: 361, Mayabeque: 86, Matanzas: 156, Cienfuegos: 50, Villa Clara: 59, Sancti Spíritus: 122, Ciego de Ávila: 132. Camagüey: 300, Las Tunas: 85, Granma: 60, Holguín: 78, Santiago de Cuba: 300, Guantánamo: 90.

Of the 9,129 confirmed active, 8,978 have a stable clinical course. Meanwhile, 161 patients are treated in therapy rooms, of which 54 are reported in critical condition and 97 in serious condition.

There are 1,193 deaths (13 on the day), two evacuees, 54 returned to their countries. With the 1,575 discharges of the day, 162,531 recovered patients (94%) are already accumulated.

Until June 22, 190 countries and 30 territories with COVID-19 cases are reported, the confirmed cases amount to 179 million 709 thousand 929 (+ 289 thousand 718) with 11 million 415 thousand 74 active cases and 3 million 891 thousand 671 deaths (+ 6,284) for a fatality of 2.17 (=).

In the Americas region, 72 million 43 thousand 992 confirmed cases are reported (+ 107 thousand 73), 40.08% of the total cases reported in the world, with 7 million 523 thousand 875 active cases and 1 million 885 thousand 790 deceased (+ 3,26) for a fatality of 2.62 (=).
