Cuban tourism: innovate to grow in the new normality.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decrease in tourist flows in Cuba and the world. Recovery is going to be asymmetrical and will only be achieved in 2023 or 2024.

Currently, innovation has become the central axis of the development of the industry, not only in the Caribbean nation, but also internationally.

Today the Island has to be innovative out of obligation because it is the way in which it will be able to return to levels prior to the pandemic.

To the extent that the country’s destinations are able to advance further in this sense, to be smarter, to better satisfy the expectations of tourists, there will be a faster recovery.

Cuba has a group of characteristics that are favorable for this process, such as the potential for qualified workers with a level of specialization, strong links with universities, the existence of a branch school, and training centers in all provinces.

The Ministry of Tourism also introduced a hygiene and safety protocol against Covid-19.

Tourism activity is closely linked to the mobility of people, so restoring their behavior contributes to safety in each Destination from the redesign and implementation of hygienic-sanitary practices associated with the new post-Covid-19 conditions.

In Cuba, security in the tourism sector is part of the National Security Plan, so the reopening of tourism services is related to the elimination of the risks of spreading diseases with the characteristics and scope of an epidemic.
