He is a politician, businessman and American television personality. Since January 20, 2017, he is the 45th President of the United States.

Born and raised in Jamaica, a borough of Queens New York, Trump earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Wharton Scool, University of Pennsylvania in 1968.

In 1971, he took over the family-owned real estate and construction company Elizabeth Trump & Son, which would later be renamed Trump Organization.

During his business career, Trump built, renovated and managed numerous office towers, hotels, casinos and golf courses. He was the owner of the Miss USA and Miss Universe parades from 1996 to 2015, and allowed the use of his name in the brand of several products.

From 2004 to 2015, he participated in The Apprentice, a reality show on NBC. In 2016, Forbes ranked him as the 324 richest person in the world and 113 in the United States, with a net worth of $ 4.5 billion.

Trump sought the presidential nomination of the Reform Party in 2000, but withdrew before the vote began. He considered running for office as a Republican for the 2012 election, but he finally decided not to.

In June of 2015, he announced his candidacy for the 2016 elections, and quickly became the favorite among the seventeen candidates in the Republican primaries. His rivals eventually stopped campaigning in May 2016, and in July he was formally nominated at the Republican Convention along with Mike Pence as his running mate.

His campaign received unprecedented media coverage and international attention. Many of his statements in the interviews, in the social networks and in the manifestations of the campaign were controversial or false.

Trump won the November 8, 2016 general election against Democrat Hillary Clinton. At age 70, he became the oldest and wealthiest person to assume the presidency, the first without military service or political office previously held, and the fifth to have lost the election by popular vote.

The Trump platform emphasizes the renegotiation of US-China relations and free trade agreements such as NAFTA and Transpacific Partnership, enforcement of immigration laws, and construction of a new wall along the border between The United States and Mexico.

His other positions include obtaining energy independence while opposing climate change regulations such as the Clean Energy Plan and the Paris Accord, reforming veterans’ affairs, and replacing the Patient Protection and Care Act Affordable Health while reducing taxes in general and imposing import duties on companies offshoring jobs.

Donald Trump advocates a non-interventionist approach to foreign policy, while increasing military spending, extreme research on Muslim immigrants to avoid Islamic terrorism, and aggressive military action against ISIS. Their positions have been described by scholars and commentators as populists, protectionists and nationalists.
