Havana: The Cuban Civil Defense today issued an Early Warning Notice regarding the potential threat of tropical storm Elsa, which according to forecast models could affect the country over the weekend, Prensa Latina reports.
Information from the Caribbean nation’s Institute of Meteorology said that the trajectory and evolution of the meteorological event indicate that the effects on the eastern region of the island could start from Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
So far, heavy rains are expected, which could gradually reach the entire national territory, so the call of the Civil Defense is to specify in advance the assurance of disaster risk reduction plans.
In particular, the note emphasizes the guarantee of capacities for the protection of the population in the midst of a complex epidemiological situation, which makes it necessary to respect the established hygienic-sanitary measures.
Likewise, other guidelines are checking the status and vitality of emergency generators, harvesting agricultural products suitable for consumption, and moving livestock to safe areas.
Also the increase of hydrometeorological surveillance, the actions of unblocking drains, sewers and drains, as well as adopting the necessary actions to ensure the protection of all economic resources.
The Civil Defense urged citizens to stay informed about the evolution of the tropical storm and to stay away from risk areas.
